When an electronic failure sends a wing of nuclear bombers past their fail-safe point with orders they cannot be talked out of, in a world where the crews are trained to ignore any voice recalling them as an enemy trick, a president alone in a basement with a translator must persuade the Soviet premier that it is an accident, before he has to offer something unthinkable to prove it.
