- WHAT
- You know those film trailers with the deep voice over saying “In a world…“? (There’s even a movie by that title). Sometimes a logline doesn’t make sense unless you clarify the setting. Perhaps your story plays “in a world where lies don’t exist”, or “in a world where everyone disappears at the age of 21” etc. Or perhaps your world is “1920’s Paris”, or “On an exoplanet a million years in the future”. We need to find an elegant way to incorporate this into your logline. But be aware that the more information needs to be included, the harder it will be to write a concise, industry-standard sentence.
- HOW
- To make the magic work, we’re going to describe the setting by using the phrase “in a world where”, or simply “in …”. Any other combination will make the linguistic brain inside our logline generator explode. Can you do this?
DON’T FORGET
Whatever you write now doesn’t have to be perfect.
You can play around with it later, and edit the logline generator’s outcome.
These notes complement the Logline Generator, developed in partnership with Story Architect.
Our thanks also go to Peter Boot, who coded the very first Logline Generator.
