FINDING JAMAL – FIND FORRESTER2
In the first movie we found William Forrester and this is Finding Forrester 2, but it is Jamal Wallace we are searching for now and it has been over thirty years.
And…
Life has not always been good to Jamal who lost his brother to a drive-by shooting fifteen years ago whilst on an internal book tour promoting and his mother died right next to him from a heart attack would bring anyone´s world down and that is exactly what happened.
Just and as William Forrester he retreats to his corner apartment, drinks himself awake and asleep, cleans the windows from the outside, listens to the same records, new plasma TV´s have replaced the old ones that are stands for the new. He has a laptop that plays his funny Youtube videos on playlists, uses the same typewriter with an empty chair and typewriting facing him, Jamal talks and argues with Forrester, drinks and paces the house in a rage.
The neighborhood has seen better days as well with Jamal being the only real tenant occupying this space. All of the other apartments have become drug dens, dives, homeless homes, and his hallway is dangerous as well. Constant battles with the Crip & the Bloods can be heard over the music and Jamal just turns up the music trying to drown it all out as he drinks heavily.
A delivery, Uber driver with a sealed plastic container drives up, and a young boy runs up tand enters the apartment, passing homeless drunks and addicts who try to reach out and this young teen just pushes his way through to the paint peeling door of Jamal. He kicks the door and Jamal screams loudly. And he opens the many locks and peeks out the door. Teen holds the container, Jamal reaches out, snatches it from him and slams the door in his face. Kid runs out slapping and kicking his way to the front door.
This Teen was spying out the premises for his gang leader who is a new Gang leader in town trying to get a foothold in the Hood and has eyed the perfect location for his operation: Jamal´s Apartment. This teen is a prodigy just as Jamal was, but much deeper into a life he has learned to embrace in spite of his Crack-head mother and Pimp dad. Which left him in the care of the state who turned him over to Foster Care and this is where our story starts!
I would recommend checking out the formula page. A logline needs to have three things: A character, an event, and an action. At the moment you just have a character.
