I agree with your other comments – need to find a way of saying something about wresting Egypt from the hands of his contemporaries as the western world descends into chaos. (This has resonances with the breakup of the USSR!)

    The last phrase "after he's been wounded.." sounds like it's been tagged on and continues the sentence a bit too much for my taste.
