You shouldn’t use backstory as your inciting incident. It is not immediate enough.

Think about Supernatural, the two brothers have a backstory that’s important to the overall story, but it is the immediate supernatural murder of the girlfriend that sets the story in motion.
Also, they have a specific goal; find their father.

So what is the immediate incident that sets the story in motion?
What’s the lead characters specific goal; as set into motion by the inciting incident?
