It becomes a bit inceptiony at some point – which memory is and real which isn’t.

How would this be shown on camera, without him stopping and saying “wait a minute I remember booking a table for two but I live alone…”

I more than anyone like a good sci-fi story, and I find your memory theft concept interesting, in fact, in 2013 I directed a stage play about a memory thief. However, in this instance, it feels rather contrived almost as if the story is a justification for a memory theft plot device than memory theft being a requirement of the story.

For example, what if in the world of your story memory storage is an option that most health plans come with. Most people pay the extra premium and get each year of their life stored away. Now if this is the case, I would expect that these storage facilities would be super secure, and only very few, if ever, memory theft cases are reported. The MC suddenly suffers amnesia as a result of an accident, his memory has been wiped clean – inciting incident.

He is told at the hospital that he has health insurance and as part of his plan he has memory recovery for all his memories up until the beginning of that year. He then gets his memories installed back in his noggin, but must figure out the missing few months on his own. In his investigation to get back the last few months, he finds clues that indicate a malicious intent. He actually discovers records of file alteration in his memory storage, and must now find the person who altered them to get his real memories back – goal.
