That’s an interesting concept.? Is a little hard to get my head around how manual skills can be a currency. This seems pretty important to the movie, so I hope you have a clear idea about it.
Would be good to have focus a slave as the main character.? What are her/his stakes?? What does she/he have to lose if she doesn’t overthrow the ship?? It would be cool to not be a slave to rich and famous people, but what else?
Also, I can’t imagine the slaves would “run” it.? I imagine the masters would.? The slaves would work on it.? :]
Their motivation is rather obvious – freedom, I don’t think you need to explain why they overthrow the masters.
This paradigm has been explored in many other films such as Elysium or Snow Piercer, in fact I’d argue that it’s been a story telling staple right back since the old testament with the story of the Exodus.
Point is, how will you set this apart? What is it about this particular slave over throwing master story that makes it more interesting than previous iterations?
I suggest developing an interesting journey for one character and focus the concept/logline on him or her instead of the society as a whole.
Fame and fortune has always been built on the sweat equity of manual labor. ?See Karl Marx and his theory of surplus value of labor.
So much for economic theory. ?The practical problem with this logline is that it sets up a situation, but does not lay out a plot. ? As a result of discovering that the top %1 are dependent on their skill and labor, what do the other 99% do about it? ?Who among the exploited masses emerges as the protagonist? ?After overthrowing the ruling elite, what becomes his objective goal?
