What?s wrong with a schmuck as a protagonist? Ha.

Well – he?s a rich, playboy plastic surgeon in the Patrick Bateman and Christian Troy vein. He?s a smug yuppie type – with OCD levels of perfectionism. He?s supposed to be pathetic and ridiculous.?There?s even a scene where (in a nod to Close Encounters) he starts carving a naked women into his mashed potatoes. He?s obsessed.

In a lot of ways he can go head-to-head with the psychiatrist, who is (you guessed it, also a former sex addict). What they have together is unique – they get and understand each other. They can only be vulnerable with each other (which is oddly corny for such a black premise).

What?s interesting and dangerous about them having an affair – is that it?s illegal and unethical to do that with your patient. But yeah – I mostly imagined two beautiful people with huge egos going head to head in a game of constantly shifting power fuelled somewhat by sexual jealousy. The ending for it being – these two cruel, narcissistic people do very much belong to each other. There is someone out there for everyone ha.

      Okay. Cheers everyone.

The idea of a manipulative, evil psychologist is an interesting one, but be careful when writing the protagonist, too pathetic and we may learn to hate him, not pathetic enough and he’s bland. I like it, The log-line is a bit wordy, consider something along the lines of? “When his twisted, manipulative therapist attempts to take over his life, a reformed sex addict must blah blah blah, you’ll figure it out. Good luck.

      >>>whom he might still be madly in love with.

Maybe? he’s trapped in the snares of the classic midlife, Jungian anima complex.

Anyway, my initial impression of him is that’s he’s a schmuck, a loser. (And 1st impressions are everything in loglines because you get only one chance, a few seconds, to sell the concept.)

I find the? shrink? to be a more interesting character.? She’s a winner who dominates men through manipulation.? So why not refit the story around her?

I?d mention Erectile Dysfunction but it goes deeper than that – not unlike Clockwork Orange, he?s almost violently ill whenever he gets close to this good woman he supposedly loves. On an emotional level, he pushes her away as well.

It?s a black comedy – the way that perhaps ?Fight Club? is a black comedy or ?The King of Comedy?. It?s also a homage to psychosexual thrillers such as ?Fatal Attraction?, ?Basic Instinct?, ?The Game? (Michael Douglas yuppie in peril films).?

Also – this is for a limited series. 8 episodes.
