I wouldn’t watch this because it doesn’t really give me an idea of the hook, or what I’m likely to see. What was Dave trying to achieve and why? Where did HIS journey begin?
The best way when reverse engineering a logline is to look at its IMDb profile:
“Humanity finds a mysterious, obviously artificial, object buried deep beneath the lunar surface and, with the intelligent computer H.A.L. 9000, sets off on a quest.”
1.
Try to keep the explanation of your concept simple.
ie; A strange parallelepipiod of darkness = Black Monolith
2.
It’s always tricky to deal with movies that don’t follow any formalities and are exceptions to the rule. Unless you plan on directing // making the movie, they can be a hard sell. Remember, Kubrick directed “2001: A Space Odyssey” 15 years after his first feature film “Fear and Desire”. In no way am I saying not to do it but rather demonstrate the practicality of the adversity that arises.
Hope this helps. 😀

Hi You two,
You’re right.
I made a mistake:
I wanted to put this topic in “Classics” with the ones of “AMARCORD” and “INCEPTION” to work on non conventional movies in continuation of our thinking about “THE BIRDS” (Classics section) and other particular movies wich breache our paradigms.
I just wrote this logline quickly in a non conventional way to initiate discussion.
IMDB’s logline is a good one of course, and “black monolith” is the common name for this objet.
Whoever, this movie is a four acts story as wanted by S. Kubrick and A.C. Clarke, and this conventional logline mentions only the second and the third.

I think it would be interesting to analyse this movie in all the aspects according to which it violates the rules and try to make a non conventional appropriate logline.
The goal is the same for Amarcord and Inception (I put Inception “official” logline as it is a perfectly appropriate one).
