This would be funny for sure.? ?Why do I want this old codger to find love…what’s at stake if he doesn’t?
You have a nice setting for a comedy and I see the potential for plenty of laughs, but, there is no real goal or obstacles for the man to overcome. Also, his motivations for taking any actions are unclear.
I think the story hangs on the reasons for his wife leaving him. If she left him for another man, then his goal is not a new girlfriend, but a trophy wife. If she left him for a richer man, then maybe he looks for a still richer wife.
The other problem is that eccentric can mean many, many things. How does his eccentricities help or hamper him in his new situation?
As for ipg’s reservations about tender and co., I think it depends on the man’s age. After 48 yrs the man might be 66, if he married right out of high school. This is the Atari generation. The first generation to embrace the PC. A techie from that generation might be an avid smart phone user even today.
This is a cool idea, and I really get a sense of personality from the way you described the old man as an eccentric, old codger! I can imagine the shenanigans he would get himself into around dating apps and catching up with ‘new ways’. Logline is pretty concise (I agree with dpg on the ‘divorce’ wording) and it generally sounds great!
I like the idea.? It is certainly topical with broad market potential.
Some thoughts:
1]”asks for a divorce”:? shorten to “divorces him”.? Unless that’s your intention: she only threatens, doesn’t follow through.? Otherwise asking is different from following through with the divorce .
2] I suggest switching the protagonist to a female.? Why?? Because of the demographics: on average, women outlive men by more than a decade. Consequently, the pool of women in the senior citizen dating market greatly exceeds the pool of men. Women have to compete harder to find another Mr. Right.?
So it ups the ante in terms of the struggle, the ordeal if the protagonist is female.
3] And she’s not just eccentric.? I suggest that a defining characteristic that would be more in tandem to her objective goal is that she’s shy, insecure.? She’s not comfortable with having to be a proactive suitor. That’s what her 1st husband did.?
Now she has to get out there and hustle.
4] “embraces single life”:? On the contrary, it’s the last thing she wants to do.? It’s an ordeal, something she does out of desperation, not out of joy, not out of a sense of liberation.
5] I surmise that the Boomer generation is not likely to use apps like Tinder. Why? Because they are not interested in one night stands, zipless f**cks,? short term hit-and-run relationships.? At that stage in their lives they don’t have the energy, the psychological stamina, or the inclination.?
What they? want is commitment, a life partner, a stable till-death-do-them -part relationship.
6] Oh, and a guy who can produce documents to prove he’s financially secure, has a good insurance program — women don’t want to get stuck with? a financial leech.? (That is a real life risk.)

I think your logline pretty much says it all. ?The ticking clock of his old ticker due to expire is suggested in their age and the conflict of his eccentricity pitched against modern dating methods is there.
Are you testing an idea, or is it more fully fleshed out? ?I ask because I’m wondering if his wife ‘asking’ for a divorce is more a plea for attention or whether she actually walks out on him (he seems quick to embrace single life!)
