The story is more about him desperately trying to save his daughter. He has no consideration for his police career or oath.
She is a drug addict and this is the body of her dealer boyfriend. He threw her out of the house the night before and believes he pushed her into this action.
He feels massive guilt and is willing to suffer as he feels responsible.
The idea of him being a cop is like a shadow over the story. But doesn’t play into, it supplies him resources to ruin his own life.
