“Powder Milk and Ice Cream” is a poignant coming-of-age story that follows the lives of two close friends, Mandy and Joey, that is equal parts warm and tragic, in the style of films like “Eighth Grade” and “Licorice Pizza.” Set in the 1970s, the narrative explores their journey from childhood to young adulthood, filled with laughter, heartache, and missed opportunities. From the first time they meet over a quirky treat of ice cream and powdered milk, there is an electric spark between them. Trapping rabbits, camping in the idyllic woods and swimming at the local pool, they forge a deepening connection, becoming each other’s anchoring rock. Joey can’t quell his lingering desire for Mandy. Stricken by the rift that others forge between them, Joey becomes increasingly desperate to express his true feelings to Mandy. Will he have a chance before a looming tragedy turns their young lives upside-down?
