Series Title: Netherbound
Comparable Series: The Order, The Magicians, Fate: The Winx Saga
Premise:
At Eldridge University, a prestigious institution known for its influential Greek Life system, a mysterious hallucinogen circulates among fraternity and sorority members. This drug offers euphoric highs and grants users enhanced abilities that align with the characteristics of each campus chapter. Whether it’s superhuman athleticism, unparalleled intellect, or captivating charisma, the drug empowers students with supernatural gifts. However, the drug is far more dangerous than it seems—it is a gateway to the Nether Realm, where demons secretly manipulate the students to weaken the barriers between their world and Earth.
Alex, a troubled college athlete struggling with insecurity and self-worth, takes the hallucinogen at a Greek mixer. He is transported to the Nether Realm, where he meets Raphael, a “spirit guide” who offers him everything he desires: enhanced strength, confidence, and relief from his emotional and physical scars. What Alex doesn’t realize is that Raphael, like the other “spirit guides,” is a demon in disguise. The demons initially present themselves as benevolent mentors, guiding students toward success in exchange for their loyalty, while secretly using the students’ power to prepare for an invasion of Earth.
The Greek Life system at Eldridge operates like a supernatural mafia, with each chapter secretly governed by a demon general who manipulates the students for their own sinister purposes. These chapters, which at first appear to be mere social organizations, are led by demons posing as spirit guides—each offering seemingly harmless gifts like success, power, and influence, while subtly guiding their members toward actions that will bring the demons closer to their goal of breaking the barriers between worlds.
The Circle of Archangels is led by Raphael/Leviathan, promising athletic superiority and feeding on envy.
The Guardians of the Throne is ruled by Sariel/Mammon, offering political influence and feeding on greed.
The Keepers of the Dominion are under Uriel/Belphegor, enhancing tech innovation while symbolizing sloth and manipulation.
The Virtue Votaries, led by Raguel/Asmodeus, grant charm and artistic talent while feeding on lust.
The Cherub Coalition, governed by Gabriel/Beelzebub, empowers members with wealth and business success.
The Order of the Seraph, ruled by Michael/Azazel, promotes academic excellence, while feeding off ambition and scholarly devotion.
These demons, though initially presenting themselves as benevolent, guiding students toward personal and academic success, are secretly laying the groundwork for a demonic invasion. Their influence becomes more apparent as the drug, a key tool for their plan, becomes more addictive and powerful. Each dose brings the students closer to total corruption, eroding their sense of self and empowering the demons to break through the barrier separating their world from Earth.
Alex, after discovering the demons’ true nature, becomes a reluctant leader in the fight against them. He must navigate the increasingly dangerous and treacherous landscape of Greek Life, where the chapters, run like crime families, are locked in constant rivalry while unknowingly serving the demons. Each fraternity or sorority, designed to amplify the ambitions of its members, now becomes a pawn in a much larger and darker game.
Alongside Alex, a group of diverse and complex students works to uncover the truth and fight back:
Jenna, a sharp political science major and member of the Guardians of the Throne, is ambitious and skilled in navigating the halls of power. Although she’s initially drawn to the drug’s promise of political influence, she becomes disillusioned when she realizes the demon’s true intentions. Jenna’s own struggles with greed and power make her a reluctant but powerful ally in the fight.
Kai, a quiet and reserved tech genius from the Keepers of the Dominion, uses his skills in innovation to crack into the university’s tech systems, uncovering secrets about the drug’s effects. However, his addiction to the drug’s promise of genius-level intellect threatens to break him.
Dominic, an influential social media figure from The Virtue Votaries, has a large following and a magnetic personality that attracts others. But his hunger for fame and validation puts him at odds with the growing resistance, as he struggles to balance his charisma with his emerging guilt over the demons’ manipulation.
Nikki, the ambitious daughter of a wealthy global financier in the Cherub Coalition, wants to take over her family’s business and sees the hallucinogen as her key to success. Her connections give her access to powerful resources, but as the demons’ control grows, she starts to question everything she’s been taught about wealth and power.
Nina, a brilliant scholar from the Order of the Seraph, has a deep understanding of history and ancient texts. Her academic knowledge leads her to piece together the mystery of the drug’s true origins and the demonic forces behind it. But as her addiction deepens, she finds herself torn between her academic ambitions and the dark powers she’s unlocked.
Each of these students, while at first focused on their personal gains, begins to understand the true cost of the hallucinogen. As they struggle with their own internal conflicts—greed, pride, lust, ambition, and self-doubt—they are drawn together by Alex, who, despite his own insecurities, becomes the reluctant leader of the resistance. The group’s shared goal is to expose the demons’ manipulation and rally the campus to fight back before the barriers between Earth and the Nether Realm collapse, unleashing Hell on Earth.
As the demons’ true nature is slowly revealed, Alex’s journey becomes one of redemption—fighting not only to save humanity but also to reclaim his own soul from the corrupting influence of the Nether Realm. Together, Alex and his unlikely allies must navigate shifting allegiances, betrayal, and the seductive power of the drug in a desperate race to stop the demonic invasion and prevent a supernatural mafia from taking control of Eldridge University—and ultimately, the world.
I like the devil’s pact angle, & the gateway joke.

Reads like Hogwarts, but since I’ve written it poorly maybe there’s some hope when you try it your way. I can see interesting parts here and there…
