I believe the significance of the boys being tech geeks is that they are adverse to spending time in nature living off the land.
I agree with DPG, there’s a lot missing here and possibly confusing the concept. The father’s goal is not clear, and traditionally suicidal MCs are less effective.?In my mind one of the boys could be the MC, and his goal could be to prevent the father from killing himself.

There is a lot to unpack and perhaps repack here.

What is the causal link between his kids being tech geeks and the rite of passage ceremony? ?And as asked by Moses99, what compels him to confess his suicidal ideation NOW of all times and places?

Also, the standard form of the logline states a decisive act around the end of Act 1 ?that drives the action, raises a dramatic question ?the rest of the story, Acts 2 & 3, ?will (eventually) answer . ?Taking this logline at face value then, the decisive act at the end of Act 1 is the confession. ?Which raises the dramatic question for Act 2 & 3. ?What is the dramatic question his confession raises? ?As a result of the confession, then what must he do? What becomes his objective goal and struggle after that confession? ?To follow through his wish with the act?

Or is the confession the Big Reveal that takes place at the midpoint or later in the 2nd Act when the dramatic tension escalates to some kind of emotional crisis?

What is the theme you want to explore?

A few questions, what’s a “boys to men ceremony” and why is he “forced” to reveal his desire to kill himself? And this is a family movie?
