When a playboy becomes entangled with a set of polyamorous, jet-setting nomads – he falls in love with an unavailable woman, whilst a suicidal nubile teen, falls madly in love with him.

      Four beautiful people in a beautiful location and it turns into Whose Afraid of Virginia Woolf. That’s the story I want to see.

      (Also – I’m well aware that’s basically La Piscine and A Bigger Splash ha.)

      The interesting thing about this site (as opposed to keeping the logline to yourself) is whenever I defend my idea or get that friction – I end up developing it more and colouring it in. The friction is good for your idea.

      I would focus on the couple at the heart of it ? the playboy and the married woman.

      Exactly right. It should just be those two really. The one thing that turns me off about the whole concept – it is very European, arty… and sadly unmarketable. Unless I can “smuggle” all these ideas in to something else. We’ll see.

      IMO, both the libertine and the monogamous lifestyles have elements of prison and freedom. Rather than play one angle, I?d play with showing how each lifestyle has both elements? Maybe it could be a ?the grass is always greener? cautionary tale.

      Very very good idea.

      I’ll play with the logline and see if I can add a twist/hook.

      The more I hear about it, the more I like the idea… especially the asthetic – I would add that to the logline.

      I would focus on the couple at the heart of it – the playboy and the married woman (unless it’s going to be a menage a trois, in which case obvs include the teen) – and then work backwards from that.

      Are the jet-setting nomads a group? Or are they just like-minded individuals? ?I?m wondering if they are a group, that even being polyamorous may have its confines (unless they?re just free to shag whoever they like?)

      We’ll say a group. A “family”. They’re all in the same boat – all rich nomads. All drifting through a haze of sex and alcohol. All testing the waters.

      This guy who falls in love starts out apathetic (and is just numbing himself with sex and alcohol) and doesn’t want anything and by the end – he wants this woman. He doesn’t want to share her with anyone else.

      From there, it could turn into an examination into toxic masculinity but I haven’t thought that far ha. I really don’t want to shoehorn an agenda or anything. (I was also thinking the overly macho character is compensating and is actually impotent in some way. An idea.)

      Again – I want to muck around with the idea of “the prison of relationships vs the freedom of being an emotional libertine.”?

      These are all thoughts I had for the idea back in 2014. I’m yet to distil this into a workable idea/concept/story.

      I feel like I?d get an STI just reading that logline! LOL

      One big thing is that it’s set in the 1960s – but I never put that in the logline. Interestingly, I thought my nubile Lolita-esque teen would be the only one who comes close to the hippie and free love stuff. Meanwhile, the leads would be Don Draper age — and they’re just “testing” the waters of what’s acceptable and excessive.

      Is this a bit James Bondy? The jet-setting, the playboy (and the word ?nubile?!) all hint at a slightly kitsch, dated feel (that?s a good thing in my opinion!)

      It would have that James-Bond-Mad-Men bubbly champagne feel. Then when things get dark… they get really dark.

      Why is the woman unavailable? Because she?s polyamorous and refuses to be monogamous? I like that irony of a playboy finally finding ?the one? only for her to want more than one.

      I want her to be married – but somewhat faithful to this other guy. There’s a very messed up incestuous vibe to the whole thing and you should sense that it could only blow up in their faces.

      • I love a love triangle, and wonder if you could tweet the teen into a kind of menage a trois? ?I can’t see how she fits in the logline at present.

      Firstly – I wasn’t sure if we could post more than one logline. I did recieve an email a month ago about doing one at a time. However, I couldn’t find anything on the site about it. I apologize in advance.

      Secondly – I think this logline might be too busy. Too much going on. The relationship between polyamory, love, sex and relationships (the prison of relationships, the freedom of polyamory, etc.) – is certainly something I’d like to explore.

      This is a very rough working logline ha. I’m curious to know what people think and if the idea resonates with them.

      Also – you could probably chop “a set of”.
