I’m not sure a psychologist would do this.
There are certain ethical lines I don’t believe a psychologist would cross, not without losing their license.
The man is seeing a psychologist to help him with who he is… not help him “fix” the woman he wants. As Richiev said, I’m not sure a psychologist would do this. If she’s happy with who she is, why will the audience get behind a man who is trying to change her to who he wants her to be?
Regardless of this, I don’t think the psychologist’s wife has anything to do with it other than providing the psychologist with knowledge of the disorder. You don’t suggest he’s trying to help his wife so why is this important? Plus, if he’s learnt to live with his wife’s disorder, surely that’s the lesson he can teach to his patient. How to learn to live with it rather than change her.
Agree with? Richiev and mikepedley85.? Also, without providing details, the logline is asking me to take it on faith that this “new and bizarre approach ” has a sound basis in current psychological knowledge and praxis. — that’s it is a? credible therapy.? ?I dunno.? The protagonist is described as “emotionally battered”.? Physician, heal thyself first.
>> implement a new and bizarre approach
Be specific as this sounds like the hook and bulk of the story.
A new attempt.? Any more comments greatly appreciated:
When he learns that the woman he yearns for has the same destructive personality disorder as his friend?s wife, an emotionally-battered man teams with his friend, who helps him implement a new and bizarre approach to fixing the on-off relationship.
It’s a step forward in eliminating the concerns about the psychologist. But what about the other questions? The protag seems lame, the disorder is fuzzy, it’s not clear why he needs help beyond information, the approach is vague, the genre and tone are unclear, etc.
