It becomes a bit inceptiony at some point – which memory is and real which isn’t.

How would this be shown on camera, without him stopping and saying “wait a minute I remember booking a table for two but I live alone…”

I more than anyone like a good sci-fi story, and I find your memory theft concept interesting, in fact, in 2013 I directed a stage play about a memory thief. However, in this instance, it feels rather contrived almost as if the story is a justification for a memory theft plot device than memory theft being a requirement of the story.

For example, what if in the world of your story memory storage is an option that most health plans come with. Most people pay the extra premium and get each year of their life stored away. Now if this is the case, I would expect that these storage facilities would be super secure, and only very few, if ever, memory theft cases are reported. The MC suddenly suffers amnesia as a result of an accident, his memory has been wiped clean – inciting incident.

He is told at the hospital that he has health insurance and as part of his plan he has memory recovery for all his memories up until the beginning of that year. He then gets his memories installed back in his noggin, but must figure out the missing few months on his own. In his investigation to get back the last few months, he finds clues that indicate a malicious intent. He actually discovers records of file alteration in his memory storage, and must now find the person who altered them to get his real memories back – goal.

One problem I have with the setup is that if his memories are stolen, how would he know? ?And how would he also know that his backup files have been altered?

“When his memories are stolen and his life backup file altered, a security analyst must use clues hidden within his backup memories to retrieve his real past.”
Maybe you can frame it differently.
Something like: After finding an inconsistency in his memory file, a security analyst must search for more clues so he can retrieve his real past. (23)

Point being, use the actual finding of the alteration(I’m guessing it is found when someone mentions something and he doesn’t remember it correctly or something?) as the inciting incident, maybe even consider having it so that he doesn’t know his memory has been stolen and secretly replaced? I dunno, it feels like it could use that surprise, where he has to find out about the theft in the first place.
      Hope this helps.

      I like the set up.

Seems like you need a bit more ooomph after the “to…..”

When his memories are stolen and his life backup file altered, a security analyst uses clues hidden within his backup memories to…stop a rogue AI program’s plan to enslave humanity.

      to catch?his?daughter’s killer.

to assassinate the Emperor of Americania.

Is there a ticking clock to add urgency as well as stakes? ?Say he has retained a fragment of memory about some impending catastrophe that he can only stop by recovering what has been stolen?

Knightrider, ?I am always hooked by your takes on the theme of memories… but your inclination to embed them in conspiracies theories — not so much.

      Okay, that’s me.

Be that as it may, doesn’t the logline constitute a spoiler, giving away the Big Reveals, the whodunnit and why? ?IOW: initially ?isn’t it the case that he doesn’t know who did it? ?So his ?objective goal is to recover his stolen memories which entails discovering ?who stole them and why?

A tweaked version of one I did previously, I just felt I have increased the stakes and made the clues hidden within memories a bit clearer.
