I’ll add that the motivation for the MC to take action is unclear. Why MUST he do anything after she shows up? What’s at stake for him?

Just two questions for this.
1. What does the ex-wife do that means she needs to be caught? (i.e, does she murder someone and then suspect it’s her?)
2. Why do they need the dismissed detective?
When his ex-wife murders a politician, a dismissed detective must use the past evidence he’s collected to help the police force bring her to justice. (25)
This has the potential to be something like Monk, where you can make the reason he was dismissed the reason they need his help. With Monk, it’s his list of phobias, and has OCD.
