Seeing as this is a film, the story needs to be defined better. Dramatic potential aside, you must have a starting point and an end point.
Considering the original logline, the inciting incident is his wife’s death. This then throws his world off-kilter and he makes the choice to raise the child – end act one.
What happens now for the duration of act 2? And what MUST he achieve by the end of act 3?
I believe a good choice would be to make him not only raise, and keep safe the child, but also find and punish the rapist. Once he achieves that the audience knows that the MC made a tough choice and restored justice to his world.
Yes, this is a good story idea. ?Lots of opportunity for dramatic conflict and there will be instant sympathy for the man for doing the right thing, stepping up to the challenge. ?However, I ?suggest it needs a little polishing.
Is the child a boy or girl? ?That needs to be specified in the logline because the nature of the relationship and twists and turns in the story are contingent on the sex of the infant.
And rather than than “to resolve his scorn” I suggest he does what he has to do, raise the child because that is what?he believes he must do ?– in spite of his feelings. ?IOW: he is his own antagonist. ?His negative feelings could not only destroy the relationship with the child but destroy the man by triggering a relapse into drinking.
This really does have the makings for a compelling story. ?Good luck with your writing.

I could see this being a really strong script. A widowed catholic trying to raise a son born as the product of rape. I could also see the three acts being like a baby, a boy and a teenager and the father trying to accept him. Could be really fascinating to watch. Good luck.
While a good set up for clear dramatic stakes, this lacks a goal – what does the MC do and to what end?
Is this a series or a film?
I honestly?really?like the idea of the devout Catholic raising the child and dealing with the grief of his wife. The alcoholic thing feels very overplayed and, yes, leads to the question of abortions. Can I ask, would this show the child growing up and him having to deal with the hate/abuse his father gives him or just dealing with the father during the first few months? Thanks.
The MC was initially a “hopeless devout Catholic”; it might’ve answered a possible question like ‘well, why didn’t they get an abortion?’ . I’m on the fence about either MC as I think one or the other helps bring a unique conflict to the story. Thoughts?
