      My version:

      When a classy WASP woman rebuffs the pathetic courting of a lowly, sociopathic?taxi driver, he seeks out targets ?on the mean streets of New York to vent his frustration and rage.

      The way I see it, Travis Bickle’s subjective need is for relationship, specifically friendship and love for and from women.? But he’s completely clueless when it comes to relating to women.

      The plot plays out Bickles’ fortunes to an ironic reversal.? Given his character flaw(s), he would?seem destined? — driven — to become a serial murderer. But he ends up becoming a hero when his?awkward but earnest?attempt to rescue the child prostitute, Iris, turns his murderous tendencies?toward a target worthy of his rage, Iris’s pimp.? And that’s his character arc — he doesn’t? metamorphize out of his pathology; rather the plot conspires to deflect his pathology to a “worthy villain” and a socially?laudable ?outcome.

      I agree. Would you say that helping Jodie foster’s character ( just like the attemp to assassinate the senator palentine) is a response to the rejection of Betsy? Her rejecion is the inciting incident which leads him to 1try to assassinate palentine 2save Jodie foster’s character. Since there is two actions in thaught it’d e too long to describe both in a logline and I try to described it as ” dealing with her rejection” which is really I think what he is doing.
      Anyway that was my thaught process 🙂

      I believe the plot of Taxi driver is about how he (Robert De Niro) helps the girl (Jodi Foster) get away from the pimp (Harvey Keitel).

      His inner demons are obstacles and difficult for him to deal with but not the main plot of the film rather his inner journey.
