What I had in mind was something quite dark — the idea would be for the queen to take spiritual possession of the girl… maybe not entirely original, but I was seeing the main action with the father. You do make a very good point though. I do see it potentially fairy-talesque, there is a wicked queen after all… I’ll continue to mess around with it — well, until I hear back from the judges anyway… 😉
Thanks again for your, as always, well received feedback… and btw — I’ll be a few days on The Hunger Games… I ain’t seen it yet :0
If the young girl is valuable enough to possess some mystical boon or charismatic potentiality that the evil queen wants to possess or gain control of, maybe the young girl should be the protagonist.
One reason I say that is because the natural audience for the genre, fantasy, is likely to slant younger rather than older.
A randomly generated, blatant and shamelessly commercial thought. 🙂
Great questions — at the moment, yes, she is kidnapped, and I’m still toying with the ‘why’ — she (the queen) may need an innocent to be able to survive — the wells of which are fully exhausted on her world.
Again — very early days (like, last night in that strange place before unconsciousness…), so, in terms of a thematic premise not there yet. I just had an idea about a Father, struggling to to come to terms with being a single parent (they might have been recently separated before the death…) and must take on this mission impossible of a quest to a fantastical world to save his daughter.
I’ve been reading some Stephen King fantasy of late, and have also wanted to do something in the vein of Stephen Donaldson’s ‘Lord Foul’s Bane’ etc for awhile…
It might be more suited to a novel rather than a film.
Anyway – thanks for the feedback — see you in ‘the classics’ 😉

In what sense? Has the queen kidnapped her? Put her under her a spell? Why is the queen interested in her?
Is there a particular theme or idea you wish to explore?
Very early days on this — just an idea…
