A part of me just wants to dump all this back story and start the film with a dude looking for treasure with a map… but than i fear we wouldnt be invested in him in an emotional level. why he is doing this, etc…
What do you think? Should I keep all the back story of how this journey got started?

Yes, I have a lot of Don Quixote in my mind... and somehow the Treasure Island wasn't. Thanks to you, now it is. Great input. Thank you. Bandits are in a hot pursuit and now I made hero's father an ex-pirate who became a farmer. Hence, he has the treasure map.

A teenager hunts the killer of his father but falls in love with the daughter of his enemy. Can he kill the beloved father of the woman he loves?
I see this as a Southern Crime/Romance story. In the likes of "Mud" and "Monster's Ball"
