Why would a movie audience want to root for the robbers to succeed?? What, other than sheer greed, justifies the bank robbery?? For chump change at that.? Why would a movie audience want to root for the robbers to succeed?? What, other than sheer greed, justifies the bank robbery?? For chump change at that.? Navajo casinos are located in small towns;? the banks wouldn’t have that much cash.? ?In fact, on any given day, the casino would have more cash on hand than the bank.

What has the bank done to deserve being robbed?? (That’s the standard formulation of a heist movie where the protagonist is the one doing the stealing.? He steals from someone who “deserves it”, who is more morally reprehensible than the robber )

This is a film that as a whole defies reduction to the standard logline formula.? The film interweaves? the separate lives and loves of three principals.? ?The primary plot line that dominates the 1st hour is about a young man who acts like a cue ball? breaking the rack of the other principals.? That is,? his life literally collides with the other two, sending the trajectories of their plots in different directions than the ones they originally intended.

All the while,? the “cue ball” character remains steadfast in his objective goal.?So, focusing only on the character whose goal remains unchanged:

A young? man plots to win enough money from dog fighting to flee town with the woman he is madly in love with, his brother’s wife.
    (26 words)

One common denominator among the principals is that they own dogs.? Dogs play pivotal roles in all 3 plot lines.

    Tony Edward:

I am attracted to the? story because:

1]I want to see how he pulls it off without getting caught.? It essentially becomes a heist flick, does it not?
2] I want to see the character arc, how circumstances provide an opportunity for a nice guy, a heretofore compliant, law-abiding milquetoast, to unleash his repressed shadow .

As for moral justification, what’s the moral justification for Danny Ocean ripping off the treasure vault of 3 Las Vegas casinos?? ?There really isn’t.? The? audience buys into the character and the heist on the basis of emotional factors.? So sell the emotional justification, not the moral.

Regards and best wishes with this story.
