Hey Saurin,
Thanks for the note. In answer to your questions (I’ll answer as past tense):
1. It was not the intention of the Queen to freeze the village. It’s quite the opposite of the ‘not doing what she wants them to’ cause. This is a story of her sacrifice. If she was a vengeful soul, she could have frozen everybody in the beginning of the story.
She had been forced to live a cloistered life to hide her special powers. These powers though, are out of her control. She has had them since early childhood. There are advantages and disadvantages to having such abilities. She must live the perfect life to protect those she loves. Her parents pass away. Only the Queen and her sister remain and she grieves when she has no choice but to flee. Her sister is more gullible than her, and they fall out when her sister falls for a man the Queen knows is absolutely not in love with her, but a charlatan who truly only wants fame and fortune. Unfortunately, the Queen is seen as spiteful and lacking in love. The truth is, the Queen has only pure love. That’s why she can clearly see that there is no love in this charlatan’s heart. The Queen truly loves her sister and the people of the village, but she has done all she can to protect them.
There is zero spite involved in her fleeing for those she loves, only for the evil attempting to take over her kingdom.
When her powers are uncovered, being a mere human, the Queen’s fears cause her to flee. All alone, she will adjust to her new lonely yet powerful world. She doesn’t realise the icy destruction she has left behind her. The Queen turns her sister away when she finds her new icy palace. Broken, the sister begs the Queen to come home, having risked her life to find her, but the Queen can’t go back to a village of people who see her as somebody cold, destructive and unfeeling (when in reality she loves them and has sacrificed her happiness for them). Not only has the Queen’s world go cold, but her heart has been forced to go cold as well.
2. Her sister’s superpower is that of ‘pure love and trust’ unfortunately hidden deep within, buried from childhood wounding caused by misunderstandings and abandonment. This is why she falls victim to a man feigning true love. The Queen knows this is the reason, and that’s why she attempts to put her foot down… which leads to the freezing of the village. In the climax, it is true love expressed by all that organically unfreezes the village.
3. Her sister loves the Queen. The Queen loves her sister. The mending of the relationship is what is most important to them both. They both love the village. There is an inner knowing that their reconnection will bring sunshine to the village again, and so the focus remains on the love between the sister and the Queen.
True love brings true healing.
I hope this answers your questions, Saurin. It’s a great movie. Great theme song.
