Does this sound interesting/openable or too similar to a Christmas carol?
I see no problem with being like Dickens (would that I could be!), but I would modify the phrasing: On the eve of her son's wedding, a regretful, embittered taxi driver must visit her own past, present and future to help?him avoid repeating?her mistakes. Russell

See lessIt?s the late 1970?s in apartheid Johannesburg, when the father of a curious, black 10yr old boy is arrested for his involvement in an ANC terrorist bombing, the boy?s family seek political asylum in Australia and need to leave urgently. The boy is determined to find a way to free his father, he speaks to his dreams and they lead him to an unlikely ally who makes the impossible possible.
Simply rephrasing what you wrote, I get this (26 words): In apartheid Johannesburg, when his?father is arrested and his?family seek urgent asylum, a young black boy uses his dreams to find an unlikely ally.

When a graffiti outbreak in a small town corresponds with recent child abductions in the county, a nerdy teenage boy has to crack the codes to save the children and become the town hero.
Well I certainly learnt from this example. My take would be: When a nerdy teenager's sister becomes another abductee, he must first crack the clues ?in a graffiti outbreak to attempt a rescue.
