Use it well and you’ll keep coming back. Stick to these rules:
1. Register
Registration is essential: you’ll get your login by email and you’re set to post. Because the site is free, you’ll also get the odd email from our sponsor, The Story Department (that’s me, Karel Segers). Mostly informative, never obliged to buy anything.
2. Learn how to logline
A logline isn’t just any one-sentence summary. Learn our formula first; it’s the format the whole site runs on. Build one from scratch with the Logline Generator, or run a draft through Logline Medic for an instant structure score and an editor’s read on story sense.
3. Review at least two loglines
Once you’ve posted your own, comment on at least two from other writers. Your gut response is enough; you don’t need authority. With tens of thousands of reviews already on the site, you’ll get a feel for what’s useful fast. Take feedback seriously too; reviewers give you their time for free.
4. Submit your logline
Post your logline: title, film or show, done. One a day at most, and don’t repost the same one; that’s what the comments are for. Posting is how you give back, not just take.
5. Pick a favourite comment
When a comment genuinely helps, mark it as your favourite. It earns the commenter brownie points, and everyone likes those.
6. Examples
The Examples category is for loglines of well-known films. Reading one for a film you know is the fastest way to get the formula. Consider submitting one yourself.
7. Stay cool
We’ve rarely had to ban anyone. Repeatedly breaking these rules gets your access blocked.
