This is interesting that this is based on true events. We have a historical account about this story??

Yeah I’ve done quite a bit of research on it. The two main events are the Toba volcano explosion (biggest one in 25 million years, caused a few extinctions and started a new ice age), and the out of Africa hypothesis(which provides the main plotline). The out of Africa hypothesis is that a tribe or two of humans left Africa about 70,000 years ago(journey movie) and every single human now living outside Africa is a direct descendant of these two tribes. There is also a fair bit of other “event” data in the story. The tribes shaman use “magic sticks” which is a riff on counting sticks used by actual shaman, herb pouches, food, hunting, even some allusions to the cultural explosion which occurs a few tens of thousands of years later. Neanderthals also join the tribe explaining why all non-africans have 4% neanderthal DNA. Meaning of course that all humans are actually African, just depends how far back you want to go so I think it has a nice inclusive moral message in it as well.

      Hi djmc,

Wow, you’re tackling an epic story which isn’t easily wrangled into a 25-30 word logline. I appreciate the fact that your story is based on real events and it’s hard to ignore the impulse to include all the story elements, but the challenge is capturing their journey more cinematically.

      My stab at it:

At the dawn of the Ice Age, a fierce female hunter leads her tribe out of Africa as they struggle against the elements, predators, enemy tribes and each other. Based on real events.

      Best of luck,
      Monique

I like this, more concise and more to the form of a long line without losing your info.

      Heh thanks Monique,
That’s a good new logline, do you mind if I use that (with a few changes) in my query letters?

But of course! Glad I could help.

      Cheers,
