We’re now really close to the move towards a new, fresh layout for the site.
Sadly the developer has stopped supporting this theme, and as you may have noticed, it is not compatible with mobile devices. And that’s just not acceptable.
Another annoying bug is the ghost of an old notice about an ‘Online Logline’ event that keeps popping up. I assure you, it is dead. I killed it. But it still keeps coming back.
So the house is haunted, and we should leave it soon.
This is an opportunity for you guys and gals (where are you, gals?) to send us suggestions for new functionality. There will be a lot more flexibility in the future, but I want to make sure that we have what YOU want.
Just reply to this message with your suggestions, and I’ll see what I can do!
Cheers,
Karel
like dpg says, knowing the genre would help. And maybe a way to search for log lines by genre. Reading log lines that are the same genre could help give people an idea on how to write theirs.
Hi folks
The one thing I have ask for was a way of find the loglines I have posted.
If we could be able to change our usernames, that’d be nice. Also I think the forum idea is a great idea.
My 2.5 cents worth:
Add a field to indicate the genre. It isn’t always obvious from the logline and it makes a big difference in evaluating the concept.
Add a field to indicate the intended format whether a feature film, short film, series (TV, streaming, cable, web). Again it makes a difference in knowing.
Cap the word count on a logline at 60 words — twice the ideal maximum count of 30. It is necessary to cut some slack as posters grapple with their concept. But if someone is not able to state what their story is about in 60 words, then they don’t know what their story is about. (And neither will the rest of us.)
Expand the information in “How to Write a Logline”. It should include some dont’s as well as suggested do’s to help posters avoid common mistakes such as using proper names, giving away the ending.
I strongly support Richiev’s idea for a separate forum to post and discuss ideas, tips about how to write loglines.
Great idea above from Richiev — this would also be useful when wanting to review past loglines etc.
I left a reply, but it seems to have gone missing, so please excuse if this is a repeat.
A Richiev says, it would be nice to be able to improve the logline as a result of comments and be able to see the progress from rough to a polished diamond.
A word count would be useful.
Ha. I thought this was a logline.
When a writer creates a logline, he receives critiques. Then some writers edit the original logline, making some of the critiques no longer relevant. It would be nice to be able to see the original logline as well the edited version.
Hi Karel.
I think the new logline.it website needs a easy to navigate landing page with small clear tabs up the top right without drop down menus that clearly denote the other main pages on the site.
I often use the ‘Just Reviewed’ tab and switch between that, ‘Home’ and ‘Waiting For Feedback’, so it would be great to have all the tabs in one line directly above the main post page and visually separated from the BG graphics.
I agree with DPG in that they should be re worded to describe more accurately what each page means.
My suggestions are:
Home = Home
Write it = How to write a logline
Post it = Submit a logline
The Review it tab is not needed
I think best to add the secondary tabs under the top ones to the top line of tabs with the following changes:
The Read this tab not needed it is a double up on the How to write a logins tab.
Just reviewed = Recent posts
Classics = Classics
Directory = Members directory
Your profile = Your profile
Contact us = Contact us
Regarding the UI for posting purposes I think a clear graphical presentation of each post is best. Each question should be in a box of its own that is visually separated from the others. There should also be easy to navigate tabs directly above the questions that help sort the posts in different orders.
Hope this helps.
A forum option where we can discuss, ideas of how to create a Logline, or articles we have found; with other writers.
When you click on a name, you should be able to see each logline they have posted, maybe even given a choice between chronological and reverse chronological. That way you can see the progression of the logline they have created.
So you’re sticking with WordPress? I’d see this as an opportunity to go with a different site altogether.
Possibly LiveJournal – you’d get a greater reach audience wise and its format is already very similar to this one, and in my opinion, improves on it. And the best thing – you’d get much less spam than somewhere like that horrible “Face” place…
Just some thoughts.
Nir, PDG, Craig, care to post your feature list here? So other members can comment on them!
It would be good of the layout were more ‘iterative’: i.e. Allow/expect the author to post revised loglines in the light of comments received..
A word count would be useful.
