If he's immortal maybe he's facing a gang of outlaw ghost bandits? Like someone said above, being immortal leaves him with no adversaries. Unless they are immortal too. I imagine being a ghost gives the killer a couple of advantages (invisibility, teleportation, and so on). I’d like to see what kind of things the family man would do to stop him.

But is the ghost only looking for vengeance? Maybe the family man did something horrible to him and kept it in secret. That would put him in jeopardy with his family also. I don’t know, maybe the ghost was a business associate and got betrayed and killed by the family man to get his share of the company. I think the lead character’s contradiction would add depth to him and the story as a whole.

Not sure a job is a good enough goal - if he loses his job, he'll get another one - not nice but not too bad, especially today when so many people are losing their jobs... Is there a stakes character you could bring in to the story?
