Maybe include the 'true story' bit at the beginning, if you can?? Based on a true story, an enslaved steamboat pilot commandeers a Confederate steamer during the Civil War in? a bid to steer his family to safety. Or similar. :) Sounds like a great story! I'd watch it, for sure.

I’m a little confused and that’s never a good place to start with a logline.

Why are the investigator’s friends getting involved? Surely that’s, at the very minimum, against regulations. Or is it the murdered girl’s friends??What are they hampered by that they have avoided every summer? Is this relating to the friends? The investigator? Or all of them? What has already begun?

A logline is designed to give a reader a complete summary of the story in under 35 words (ideally). It should cover the inciting incident, the main character (and a characteristic – preferably something that gives us a clue as to who they are), their goal, the stakes (preferably), a ticking clock (optional), and the antagonistic forces working against them.

They shouldn’t be left with questions or left to make assumptions about what’s actually going on. A producer will never look any further if they simply don’t understand the story.

Check out the ‘Our formula’ tab to help with formatting and try to break your story down to its essential components.

    Hope this helps.

What is the vengeful police officer, seeking vengeance for? Does the lead character know why the police officer wants vengeance?
