Interesting. While I am not completely sold on this, I have never seen this particular story idea before so I believe that is a major plus. Definitely, something to pursue.

You should check out a 70s movie called “Walkabout.” It has a similar premise, however, your story ups the stakes with the head injury and the lead character also being hearing impaired.
