    I also wondered (like dpg) about his relationship to the young veteran. Was he her CO? Or perhaps he met her in a support group or physical therapy group for injured vets?

Heck, they’d send at least a battalion (1-2,000 men)? or maybe a brigade (2-5,000 men) backed up by air support.
