You’ve used ‘pursuing a murder investigation’ to modify (tell us something about) the cop. Without this phrase you’re left with someone finding himself dealing with something, which is very passive and weak. Even if you change the wording to make the murder what this story is about ‘A freewheeling Detroit cop, dealing with the very different culture of Beverly Hills, pursues a murder investigation.’ it’s still very weak. How is this murder investigation different from any other? Why is this murder investigation important?

Sorry, if this is the actual logline for a famous movie starring Eddie Murphy, then I change my opinion. I think it’s brilliant!

Here’s the original tagline for its Australian release: ‘In Detroit a cop learns to take the heat. In L.A. he learns to keep his cool.’ [Theatrical Australia] Not a bad tagline, I say.

Does anyone know whether IMDB use the original loglines? I’d be interested to know.

not sure. imdb’s probably one of the best resource for logline examples of famous films, though. also, i’m new here. recently set one of my posts to private so i could further edit it. but now I can’t even access the post page (just redirects me to the homepage) and i cant edit it or anything. but i see that some people have still been able to comment on it. you got any idea what that’s about or know of anyone here that might be of help? thanks. already used the “contact us” section and reached out to karel on fb. no response

Nir Shelter moderates this site, I think. He posts regularly, so he’ll probably see this and be able to help you.

It’s the same as on IMDB. Maybe it is the original one. Where did you copy it from? I’m not sure what this classics’ section is about. Are we supposed to discuss classic loglines, or come up with our own loglines for classic films. I’m relatively new here as well. Maybe Nir or someone else will be able to enlighten us.

Sorry, Blossom. I think I misread what you wrote. I thought you wrote that you’re not sure that IMDB’s the best resource.

      Hey guys.

IMDB will not always display the original logline a film was pitched with or the tag line it was released with. More often than not it shows user generated loglines, reviews and plot summaries as such I would be wary using IMDB as reference for loglines.

Regarding the “Classic” section it is dedicated for logline practice by drafting loglines for produced films, which is essentially what Blossomingscripts has done.

When posting under “Private” you are posting a logline for review but the only difference is that the general public won’t see it come up under the “Home” tab or shouldn’t any how…
It is meant for the OP to PM specific members of the site for a review by invite. As mods however we can see Private posts and review them non the less.

If this wasn’t the case I’ll look into it, Blossomingscripts can you please PM me the link to the original Private posting?

      Thanks.

Nir, Blossomingscripts reposted the logline for Beverley Hills Cop from IMDB. We’ve discussed that. We weren’t sure whether we were supposed to be discussing the original loglines or drafting loglines for classic films ourselves. Thanks for clearing that up.
