We don’t know she is mentally ill in the beginning. But she decides to help the future people. They know a lot about her and they sent this phone back so she would find it and help them. Her actions get more extreme. But finally she resolves their issues and their ability to communicate with her is lost. This is when she is confronted by the possibility it was her mental illness.

The premise is very interesting. Suggesting her incentive – why should she helps them – will make it more believable, when she continues to attempt the increasingly extreme tasks.

Yeah. I think it is a “bridge to far” moment. It is like when you see a logline, “a man desperate to reunite with his estranged daughter after he find he has cancer, while saving the world from aliens” (Aliens WTF).
I think the mental illness is in the story, but not a major part. I see it as a reason she keeps it to herself. She knows people will think she is crazy. I don’t know the entire story in my head yet. Or even how I will depict the change her actions have in the future.
