How far would YOU go in pursuit of pirates and the perfect fish?

The Bitter End – a dramatic film based on eyewitness accounts of the world’s longest, and most dangerous, ocean pursuit, to save the world’s ugliest fish.

It’s a nice question, but it’s not a logline. We don’t know who it is about or the specifics of what would happen. Ask me that question and the answer is I wouldn’t go very far at all. As far as selling me on the premise of the film, a hyperbolic breathless question about fish and pirates doesn’t do much for me sorry. I’d recommend reading up on logline construction.

I’m struggling a little with this one – doesn’t tell me anything about the movie – not even the genre or tone. It could be a drama or a comedy, an action/adventure or a mixture of all of them. I’ don’t even know who it’s about, what they want, or what’s standing in their way.

I have the privilege of knowing the core story but this logline doesn’t do it justice. And Wereviking is right in saying that technically this is not a logline, more a tagline.

What we need is: 1) the main character 2) the (outer) goal, 3) the obstacles in the way of achieving it.

In the description of the main character you would also include the character weakness/flaw that will be tested (and overcome) in the course of the journey.

Despite this not being an actual logline, just asking the question does immediately make me interested in the story. How far CAN somebody go? We all crave adventure in our lives, and this sounds like escapism at its best.

Agree this is not a logline, more like a tagline for a poster.
How far would I go….? Doesn’t really matter, I’m not in the story and I’ve no desire to seek out the perfect fish, although I’m partial to the odd cod and chips.
Whose story is it? What’s there goal? Where do those damn fish come into it?

I think when you get to the point of capitalising words to make a sentence punchier you know you’re in trouble.
