I guess if anything it proves the premise can be done well, Star Trek had some fantastic and well done story ideas, so my job would be to do it differently and uniquely enough that I explore new elements that weren’t done in the episode.

if I wrote something half as good as that I’d be happy

I like the first half, then it seems to go off the rails a little and drag on.

“Haunted by a guilty conscience” – is an internal battle and shouldn’t really be put in a logline (but should be in a good story), stick to the external events and stakes.

So I would go with the first half, then add something about how he becomes linked and must solve the case/mystery before the man dies or he’ll die too. (but in fewer words).

It reminds me a lot of MINORITY REPORT, which is a great high-concept idea.

In a world where search warrants include the human subconscious, a psy-cop is tasked with recovering stolen information from a fatally wounded suspect?s mind, but becomes mentally-linked and must solve the case before he dies.

Why would I want to root for a corrupt psy-cop?? Okay, the murder memories aren’t his, but he’s still a corrupt cop. He has a lot of authentic personal memories to answer for.

Why not a clean psy-cop gets framed with false memories?? Not only does he have to do a memory dump s, he also needs to find out who dunnit and why he, of all people, is being set up.

Well, the way I have it down is he is trying to get out of the life and the way he feel into it was beyond his control, he’ll be that guy who luck has just never gone his way and when he starts to take control it truly spirals out of control.
