I thought the shifting pov was necessary and true to the fact?that all space missions?are team efforts, not solo performances.? Behind every “space hero” are thousands of people and billions of dollars worth of complex systems without which his (or hers)?15 minutes of fame wouldn’t be possible.
The high concept nature of the film is great, and yes it drew me in to watch, however I believe that the shifting dramatic point of view throughout weakened the impact of the story.
“…And the Golden Globe for best Comedy goes to….”
I thought it was a high concept film idea. ?The dramatic premise is: “An astronaut gets stranded on Mars.”
How many stories can be pitched with a premise and? a hook in 6 words?
Of course, it helped that the premise and story were already pre-marketed, pre-sold as a popular novel.
Anyway, I don’t think this movie can be sold on a logline – who wants to read at least 120 pages about a man growing potatoes on mars for 4 years?
I think the story was let down by not taking on the MC’s point of view and it shows in the logline.
I would find this more interesting:
After left stranded on Mars by his crew, an astronaut must survive with what meager resources he has until the next Mars mission in 4 years time.
Of course, they figure out he’s still alive, he figures out how to communicate with earth et cetera, but those are plot points for the script not required elements in?the logline.
The?purpose of the ?logline?is to set?up the dramatic?problem make the logline reader wonder not just if he survives — but how.
