“When Somali pirates kidnap his daughter, a distraught father must…”

I’m not sold on the idea that the father must choose between his daughter or his business.
If the father is the lead character, he should stop at nothing to get his daughter back.

If, however you like the idea of a father who is wavering between saving his business or his daughter
then you should change the lead character and have the father as the bad guy.

You could have the father wavering, he doesn’t want to pay the ransom because the money will wipe out his business
So the mom goes in guns blazing, playing the Iiam Neesan (Taken) role.
      sort of a gender switch.

      What Richieve said.

How can the audience empathize with a father that doesn’t instinctively choose to save his daughter?

And best to start with the inciting incident – After his daughter is kidnapped by Somalian pirates…

I agree with Richiev and Nir Shelter.? Any guy who would vacillate between saving his business and saving his daughter is unworthy of the audience’s sympathy, admiration or interest.

And I really?like Richiev’s idea of?a ?gender switch.? It’s a great idea:? the father?wimps out ?– so it’s up to mom to? “man up” and save the daughter.? Now that could make for a great story.

This is loosely based on the Donald…What do you think Trump would do? Anyway, I like your suggestion with the wife switch…

It is also much easier to say you will pick your daughter instead of money only because you are not in that situation…I would like to think I will pick my daughter too but I will never be in that situation because I don’t have a daughter and I don’t have money…

Why Somali pirates?? Somali pirates are sort of played out by now.? Somehow just don’t see how this could work.? It might with the mother stepping up, but of course then the family falls to bits and also which wife of such a patriarchal, businessman would even have access to her husband’s money to use as she pleases.
      don’t get it
