I like this the way it is and I understand that the antagonist is whoever kidnapped the wife or perhaps who runs the game show, but you could consider adding some more details. Who exactly runs the game show? Maybe corrupt city officials or a gang of outlaws that have taken over the city. Or maybe it’s an illegal underground game show. And maybe you could consider adding more detail about the game show itself. Is it a simple game like Russian Roulette or something far more complex like Running Man?

It seems to me that it’s whoever runs the game show who kidnapped the wife, in order to force the engineer to participate.

Is it a televised game show?

For some reason my imagination just made it a lethal version of a typical Japanes game show, with the host being some vile 1980s type game show host in a big plaid jacket and bit of a cross between a used car salesman and Saul Goodman (the lawyer on Breaking Bad). I don’t know if that’s what you have in mind, but I think that could be an interesting twist. I’d definately go see that movie, if that was the case.

Sorry, I didn’t read the title when I replied to this earlier and it does add to our understanding of the game show.
