‘When the defiled body of a missing child is discovered, an impassive occult-detective is given a task to decipher the mysterious crime of the city.’
You must establish a main character to your story. When you tell a story there must be a view point to tell from.
Given that you follow lead detective as your main character. Establish a plot where your main character is facing difficulties to show emotions because of his past. Relate his past to the story’s plot.
E.g., Here you will reveal in the end that the boy’s bully-victim murdered him. Relate this to detective’s past by creating a story where he had a abusive childhood, he wanted to do something about it, but he was never able to… something that can give a dramatic touch to your story. Connect the dots by transforming your character to understand this child’s emotion, and make him do something extraordinary for the child. I think, audience will always love such thing.
Write a 25 page story on your idea. It does not matter what you write, you will find a way to give your story a proper justification.
As the others have said.? If the detectives specialize in the occult, it doesn’t make sense that they don’t believe the cause of death was supernatural.? And why must there be two detectives?? Who of the two is the protagonist, the lead detective in the case? (There is always one — that’s standard operating procedure)
Must… or else (This bad thing will happen)
Why is it, these two specific detectives must investigate and not the police or two other detectives? Where is your ‘or else’
“Occult detectives” cannot believe that the cause of death was supernatural….why? It’s their job to believe in the abnormal, right?
The detectives have three days to catch the killer….why?
The cause of death seems to be a heart attack….but the boy who started questioning them reveals himself as the killer….why don’t they arrest him then?
Do you mean that the confusion stems from: “since the cause of death is heart attack, how can it be a murder??”
But heart attack in children can occur in rare circumstances where there is a genetic predisposition to exceptionally high cholesterol. Other reasons for heart attack would include a structural abnormality of the heart or arteries that a child would be born with (Google Search Result)
Maybe you need to use some impossible cause as death for the bully (even as an inciting event…)
After a kid’s postmortem reveals [an impossible cause of death] two occult detectives are hired to investigate at a prestigious boys boarding school…….wait
It still lacks “implied conflict”
hope it helps
Please help me get started on this.
The detectives cannot believe that the cause of death was supernatural. The face of the dead boy however looks like that girl in the closet from The Ring and the cause of death seems to be a heart attack.
The school is on lock down until the killer is found. The detectives have three days to catch the killer. The detectives begin by questioning the boys friends and discover that he was a notorious bully. This helps them narrow the case down to those who were being bullied. The detectives start questioning the boys.
At midpoint one of the boys starts questioning one of the detectives about his work and beliefs. He likes the detective and starts to open up. He leads the two detectives to an old abandoned church where he says he killed the bully.
