      I’d lose the references on the front.

      Did you miss a word? Operate on himself? Or is it a hint that the Alien is controlling him?

      Plus Clumsy I find strange. Perhaps it works really effectively in the story, but Neurosurgery is the one job that tends to weed out the clumsy.

      This also reads a bit like a setting.

      The alien is slowly taking more control. The clumsy neurosurgeon can now take a gamble and literally choose to operate his own brain to get rid of the symbian, ‘killing’ his chances of fame and/or himself but if the operation is successful – saving his soul. Thanks for reacting and will get rid of references.
