All of these suggestions imply two way traffic to the world that is accessed and that bad things are on the other side.
“opens a gateway to a hostile world”
“opens a portal..”
“opens a bridge”
“opens a link to a savage world…”
>>>her objective goal would be to ?close the door before it?s too late? (monsters from the other realm invade).
That objective goal is framed as a negative, what the mother must prevent — an invasion. ?And it seems to be an incomplete resolution of the dramatic problem.
Closing the door may be a necessary milestone in the plot — it removes the threat ?of the monsters– ?but it ?leaves her son back where he — and the story — started, ?in autistic isolation. ?If that’s where the film ends, then the story leaves the audience with an unsatisfactory non-resolution of the core dramatic problem.?
Wouldn’t the solution to the dramatic problem of her son’s isolation entail finding a way to use the channel into his mind ?to rescue him not just from the monsters, but from his isolation? ?Shouldn’t that be the overarching objective goal?
I was going to do an attempt but I really like Mosess99’s logline attempt, I think he did a good job.
I can take a stab at it:?When a single mother learns her autistic son can channel an alternate realm, she must stop her mad-scientist sister from unleashing the monsters onto our world. ~?(27 words)
Yeah, agree with above. The sister being mad doesn’t really add much. If the mother was “mad” then that would seemingly add to the plot, as then we wouldn’t be sure what is happening is real or not. That also creates conflict in the movie as well as many would believe she is mad as she tries to warn others of the things coming through.
It seems to me that by channeling, it is like you are connecting to a person’s soul perhaps, especially if letting things through from the other side.
I would also add stakes by placing the boy in direct danger, that he becomes possessed by these spirits or something like that, that way we also get a tough choice for the protagonist at the end where she can close the portal and lose contact with her son, or leave it open but leave him open to attack as well.
As Dkpough1 said the logline describes a situation for a possible plot, but not a plot. ?As a result of her sister being able to access her autistic son’s mind, what becomes her objective goal? ?What does she want to do about it?
And does her sister have to be a “mad scientist”? ?What’s the point? ?Why can’t the sister be a normal person who discovers she has an extraordinary ability?
“When her mad-scientist sister finds a way to channel through to her autistic son?s mind, a desperate mother finds out it eventually let a door open to another realm.”
What does it mean to channel through someone’s mind?
This logline does not describe a plot. Only the inciting incident. As a result of that incident, what becomes the goal? What action does the mother take?
Example:?When a mother finds out that her autistic son is able to access another realm…
Then, what does she aim to do? Dissect him? Figure out if other autistic kids have the same ability? What’s the goal?
any help will be welcome, but I’m now looking for a better wording, that would imply things from the other realm can also go through the door.
