While trying to fix a noisy microwave, an appliance repair old man tells to his apprentice the strangest stories he witnessed in his job: a single mother hypnotized by her washing machine, an electronics hobbyist tuning a ultrablack screen TV set, a neglected housewife in love with her refrigerator.

I somehow like the idea. Do these stories have a common denominator?

I thought that the denominator was kind of evident, all the stories deal with appliances (the title is “safe appliances”)
should I stress more this element in the logline?

Seems more like a string of pearls, a collection of stories, anecdotes about sundry people and their appliances than a plot. Who is the protagonist? The repair man seems to be nothing more than a narrator. What’s the objective goal, the dramatic point of all these stories? What is at stake?

After you worked on the basics dpg is talking about…

“should I stress more this element in the logline?” No it?s clear, I was looking for an other -extra- sort of unique denominator. I don’t know, have to think of the possibilities a bit more. Maybe you have to think like “what happens when you take their toys – their ‘grip on the world’ -away? Maybe he becomes a sort of shrink? They are all rich but unhappy; their life?s all depend on materialistic bull. He has nothing but is happy, has knowledge, is a sort of guru.

In my vision this would be a 3 episodes movie, plus a ‘frame’ tale. Each episode have a main character, an inciting incident, opponents, goal etc.
How do you write a logline for this kind of anthology movie? Like Dead of Night, Four rooms, V/H/S ? There are more exemples in the european cinema.

The theme is a twisted relationship between wealthy people (with empty lifes) and electronic appliances.

I have no idea that this story’s about, but a possible logline for this kind of mini-trilogy might go something like:

“Three strange tales of appliance-related intrigue, as told by a veteran repairman to his cynical young apprentice.”

All a logline has to do is let people know what they’re in for while getting them interested in reading further. Doesn’t have to cover everything; in fact it should be as simple as possible while also being entirely clear.

Is it a trilogy or a TV show? Or is it a single 2 hour movie in 3 Acts with each act being a separate story?

If its a trilogy, you write the story for the first movie in the trilogy.

A Tv show simply the premise, who is our protagonist, his goal etc. don’t need to go into the episodic storylines unless your writing loglines for each of the episodes.

If a 2 hour movie with 3 episodes contained within then yeah that’s complicated but you’ve got to work out what’s the connecting strand, why is the old repair man telling these stories. What’s the point? What is the narrative through line?

Very good thoughts about appliance repair. I work for an appliance repair company and I believe this information is very helpful in the long run.
