And it occurs to me that his dramatic problem isn’t just that she can read his mind — so can almost? everyone else, right?? All her family and friends. All his family and friends.? So can the rival for her affection. (There is a romantic rival, isn’t there? It’s pretty much a sin qua non complication in the romance genre.)

In light of the fact, that his mind is an open book to almost the whole world — what must he do?? What becomes his game plan to win her affection in spite of the fact she (and almost everyone else) can read his mind?

If so, I suggest framing the narrative? not in terms of “was notorious”? because that’s inert in terms evoking a sense of dramatic conflict and casts her in the role a passive victim of a bad press.

Well, she was the? victim of bad publicity, but she was not passive.? She was the protagonist of her own life story, and in any documentary or drama, the protagonist is by definition proactive. So she needs to be portrayed as such, as a rebel who defied conventional norms, an outsider who practiced her art (and her beliefs) in spite of the controversies that swirled around her.
