In a supernatural world where superpowers are common, a?teenage boy?goes on a journey to fight the curse associated with the power he possesses. Should I add more stakes like how he will be cast out or imprisoned or executed?

So how could I make this work? By changing the reason he wants to go on the adventure and forget about the mother?

The cursed power is actually only cursed because of the previous users and how the society handled them. It is cursed only by conditioning but the protagonist is actually not cursed at all, he's a nice guy who didn't ask for it so he wants to prove that he can be "better than the curse".
