Not sure if you watch the Good Doctor, but the main character who’s autistic finally wins over a non-autistic colleague who can see his goodness and is comfortable with directness and mannerisms but it takes time and his constant desire to improve himself.

So definitely good groundwork for a story – maybe just create the details of the situation – someone autistic already implies awkward so probably don’t need to add that but raise specific struggle with this particular person and why her….

I understand the comments here - it doesn't seem the OCD gets in the way of romance but the jealousy does. Counting to 10 during times of high stress does not seem to be overly intrusive. Who is she jealous of? An ex-lover, her neighbour? A woman her interest flirts with? How is she inspiring? And iRead more

Or what does her jealousy cause her to do /say/act?

I agree that there is just that one bit of disconnect to give us a picture of the specific struggle your protagonist has…

Rockstar troubled by gambling? alcohol? failure? Similar childhood with the boy? Maybe the the boy was a friend of his daughter’s who is lost without her??

Maybe this boy is an illegitimate child he didn’t know about that gets dumped on him?

Maybe this child is the son of a groupie who keeps following him around.

Maybe this child helps him write real music again, Maybe they write together.

This has a lot of scope – relationships are what makes us want to watch and children can always make it more heartfelt.
