    You should present what goes wrong: is the scientist paraplegic or has he gain some sort of inexplicable power? What's the gender of the scientist?

    I agree with dpg, you should add some info about the problems that the protagonist will go through in his pursuit of happiness/normal life. What about the parents of these two children? You should add the boy's nationality as well.
