When a non-verbal young chef learns that her signature dish has been ripped off by a rival, she must win over a new elite clientele with her intuitive understanding of flavour and micro-dosing.

Intention: win over a new elite clientele.
    Obstacle: ?

When a struggling chef finds out her ex-boyfriend has stolen her signature dish and opened a successful restaurant next door, she sets out to beat him at his own game.

(by presumably winning over the new elite clientele with her intuitive understanding of flavour and micro-dosing. Meanwhile – the ex boyfriend can be revealed to be a hack chef/incredible salesman which is the opposite to her non-verbal/perhaps not good with people, etc.

I don’t know if the logline I came up with conveys any of that but these are just ideas.

I made them both restauranteurs to add stakes. Her livelihood is on the line. Perhaps the livelihood of friends/co-workers/family members as well?

Again – these are just ideas to get that ball rolling.

    Good luck!

When a sentient video game character falls in love with the real-life player, she must get rid of the other characters to gain the player’s affections, even if that means rewriting the game script.

    Okay. Let’s see…
Intention: she must get rid of the other characters to gain the player’s affections (how is this difficult? what do you mean get rid of? Like kill them? One big thing – why does she have to get rid of the other players to win his affections?)
Obstacle: rewriting the game script. (is this difficult? what happens if she does?)

There’s some conflict here. A dilemma. Someone else is right – that it needs to be a bit more specific what’s going on.

When a video game character falls in love with the real-life player, she rewrites the game in order to spend time with him, inadvertently erasing her video game friends.

This one isn’t great but is it closer to what you mean? If so – hopefully it’s innate that she must fix things or choose one. Dilemma’s are really great for logline’s btw so I’d probably make sure that’s always clear.

    Anyways – good luck!

    Hi Libari,

I have to admit there’s a lot to digest there at first read.

    Lets have a look…
    INTENTION – conceal a wish-granting treasure.
OBSTACLE – the King who hired him to find it will use it to become an all-powerful tyrant.

A sellsword sets out to destroy a wish-granting treasure when he finds out his land’s king will use it to become an all-powerful tryant.

    – “conceal” felt soft to me. Less of a challenge. Treasure sounds dangerous and “ring-like” if he sets out to destroy it.

    – wasn’t sure how necessary “mysterious traveler” is to the logline.

    – for less words I got rid of “cynical” as well – though it does suggest the character’s potential arc. Keep it for now I imagine.

Anyways – good luck with this!
