Hey everyone. I?m hoping to put this up on the Blacklist again soon (after a rewrite and several loglines later). Bear in mind I?m using the formula from here and two other formulas as well. Hey everyone. I?m hoping to put this up on the Blacklist again soon (after a rewrite and several loglines later). Bear in mind I?m using the formula from here and two other formulas as well. I?m also trying to stay as lean as possible.

SERIES LOGLINE: (for 8 episode limited series)

“In 1961, a British double agent teams up with the socialite wife of a Nazi war criminal to thwart an underground organisation of Nazis but is unsure if he can trust her.”

(Is it too vague regarding their plan?)

Formula 1. (when major event happens, hero must do main action). from logline.it.

Major event: When a British double agent teams up with the socialite fianc?e of a Nazi war criminal.

The hero must do main action: Take down an underground organisation of Nazis.

Formula 2. (title is a genre about protagonist who must (the goal) or else disaster will happen if doesn?t succeed).

Masquerade is a spy thriller about a British double agent who must thwart an underground organisation of Nazis.

Now – I?m very much hoping that the stakes/the disaster that will happen if he doesn?t succeed is innate with the line ?underground organisation of Nazis? and it goes without saying they are up to no-good.

I very much want to keep this lean. (My MacGuffin is smuggling uranium, not unlike ?Notorious?. The other big influence for this was ?La Piscine? which is about a deadly love triangle/rectangle).?

Again, hopefully it?s innate but the protagonist is trying to take down the same men he was undercover with and thwarted from his war years. It will explore the ?necessary evils? he had to perform undercover. In this logline, I?m trying to make sure he doesn?t come across as a) a nazi or b) not very proactive.?

Formula 3. A logline must have?

Who the story is about? Double agent.

What he strives for? Thwart nazis.

What stands in his way? Nazis. Nazi war criminal. Socialite fiancee.?Himself (as in his carnal desires/emotions, etc.)

    Okay. Now… the pilot logline….

Hey kpetrakis01. I?ve been thinking about the ?but?.

At one point ?Mystic River? was a big influence.

I like the idea of one traumatic incident (in childhood) that echoes/ripples throughout your life and somewhat determines what you become as an adult.

Despite his behaviour, my protagonist has a saviour complex.

    The other subplots?

Bobby – battling addiction and PTSD in a post-Nam world. He is the kind of guy who owes everyone money then borrows more money. He?s a mess. The friendship was inspired by ?The Deer Hunter?.

    M. Sue – a victim of childhood abuse who grows up to be promiscuous, tough and yearning for fame and success.??She falls into a bad crowd and Jack pulls no punches to pull her out.

I do like the ?has to make sure the bro/sis doesn?t go his way? angle. Similarly, I also like the idea of this guy (he?s portrayed as a black sheep/ wasted potential, etc.) sacrificing his soul to provide for his family, friends. Perhaps putting a good kid through school. Not unlike Robin Hood or perhaps more suitably Christopher Walken in ?King o New York?.

Series logline: In 1961, a British double agent, retired and living under a new alias on the French Riviera, must thwart a corrupt government agent secretly leaking information to an underground organisation of Nazis, men he sabotaged many years ago.

Thanks ckharper. I like your one. I?ll have to add the date so people don?t think the villain is very old. ?In 1961, a retired spy living the highlife on the French Riviera, must return to his old dangerous games to catch a Nazi war criminal?. Nice and short too.

    Thanks ckharper.
