It does seem weird his father’s murdered and then the lead goes on a treasure hunt. You need to add an element to make the audience sympathetic to the leads goal.

“Following his fathers dying wish to discover the hidden pirates gold he buried, Sanco and his servant Panco must retrieve the treasure before the bandits who murdered his dad get to it”

Hope that helped, good luck with this!
The 16th and 17th centuries were a golden age of Spanish culture and tumultuous period of its history, rich in incidents and characters. Best wishes with your story.
Thank you for the very good questions.
I don’t want it to be a revenge story.. So I made his father an ex-pirate who had a treasure map. Bandits locate him years later for the map. So our hero embarks on this Treasure journey after his father’s death..
A part of me just wants to dump all this back story and start the film with a dude looking for treasure with a map… but than i fear we wouldnt be invested in him in an emotional level. why he is doing this, etc…
What do you think? Should I keep all the back story of how this journey got started?
Yes, I have a lot of Don Quixote in my mind… and somehow the Treasure Island wasn’t. Thanks to you, now it is. Great input. Thank you.
Bandits are in a hot pursuit
and now I made hero’s father an ex-pirate who became a farmer. Hence, he has the treasure map.
Don Quixote meets Treasure Island?
Are the bandits in hot pursuit, trying to get the map back, get the treasure before San?o and Pan?o do?
Well, why do they go on the treasure hunt right after his parents have died? Are they trying to get back at the bandits for the death of Sanco’s parents?
Suggestion: “After losing his parents to bandits, Sanco and his servant Panco find a map on the bandits’ bodies and go on a wild treasure hunt.”
Good Luck!
